first birthday blues

over the weekend one of baby girl's very best friends turned 1 and my sweet little nugget got to taste her very first cupcake. i often wondered if my daughter would take after her mother and have a weak spot for sweets...well....i need not wonder anymore. she literally grabbed a huge glob of frosting and shoved it in her mouth before I could even snap a picture. i can't believe we'll be celebrating her birthday in just a little over 2 months. each time i nurse her i stare at her her little body stretching across my lap and i try to visualize her back in my belly. i often wonder if i'm going to get emotional as we begin to celebrate her first trip around the sun. i don't think i am because i'm so eager for her to get just a little older so she can start dance lessons and have actual little conversations with us but the other night her dad grabbed one of her favorite books as she was sleeping and simply said, "i'm going to miss this stage." i literally almost lost it. her sweet little face lights up every time she sees that book! she even babbles as we read it to her. oh man, i'm in for a real emotional ride these next couple of months if all it took was a book to trigger the tears. but enough about the future. let's marvel at this little one in the now. how adorable are these pics from her friend's first birthday?
